Why did you join AAOS?
I joined the AAOS to maintain connection to all aspects of orthopaedic surgery. In particular, the Academy is where I have the chance to catch up with people and perspectives from every aspect of my career and all the orthopaedic specialties.
Do you currently volunteer with a committee? If yes, which one(s)?
I enjoyed serving on the Research Development Committee where we promoted orthopaedic research through advocating for research funding, meeting with the NIH leadership, selecting the Kappa Delta and OREF award papers, and running the Clinician Scientist Development Program. I have interest in serving on the Council on Research, Quality Assessment and Technology (CORQAT).
How do you define success?
Success is aligning my work with fulfilling the highest good I am capable of.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
In orthopaedic surgery, my biggest inspiration is Dr. Freddie Fu who got up every day to give everything he had to the countless people, causes, vision and goals that were important to him.
How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
The AAOS has been a source of connection, camaraderie, information and perspectives that have inspired and guided me throughout my career.
What advice would you give to new members of AAOS?
Attend, participate, and serve. It will expand your network, your mind, and your career.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I went to West Point shortly after turning 17 and drove a tank before I learned to drive a car. Did well and walked away ready for whatever else came my way.
