Why did you join AAOS?
The Academy is the community where the top minds and orthopaedic professionals can share their medical knowledge and improve their surgical techniques as a collective. Whether it is keeping up to date with emerging research, networking, or taking part in the resourceful education platforms that are offered, the AAOS continues to solidify itself amongst the most prestigious organizations in orthopaedic surgery.
How do you define success?
Success is a journey. It is a dynamic process that necessities consistency and persistency. Adopting a culture of continuous improvement with the aim of becoming the best version of yourself, while both learning from and helping others is one of many recipes for success.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
While I am intrinsically motivated myself, I tend to compliment that internal drive with external factors that keep me going. My family ingrained the values of commitment, dedication, and hard work; all in the pursuit of success. Where success for me as an aspiring orthopaedic surgeon is measured by the impact one leaves on others. We rise by lifting others, and by being accountable, approachable, and relatable. I will continue to be inspired by the people around me.
How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
The diversity and ability to connect all orthopaedic surgeons globally under one umbrella. The Academy provides a platform that addresses the needs of all surgeons in the field regardless of their experience levels.
The dynamism within the organization, the multiculturalism and culture of collaboration is inspiring as much as it is admirable.
What advice would you give to new members of AAOS?
I would advise everyone to make the most of this opportunity of being a member of this prestigious organization and build a network with fellow colleagues to learn from their expertise on and off the field. Plan for future collaborations that could supplement the growing literature on orthopaedic surgery, and leave an impact on the clinical practice.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
Growing up as a young athlete and avid football fan, I had broken my forearm three times and lost count of how many times I had sprained my ankles.
