Manish K Sethi, M.D.

I served as a Washington Health Policy Fellow from 2009-2010 during my 5^th year of residency in the Harvard Medical School Combined Program in Orthopaedic Surgery. During my time as a WHPF, I had the opportunity to explore the practice of defensive medicine among orthopaedic surgeons across the United States. Our study demonstrated the increased practice of defensive medicine and fears of malpractice lawsuits among orthopaedic surgeons across the country.

Serving as a WHPF allowed me to further develop my policy analytical skills and gave me the opportunity to reflect on the vast implications of national health legislation on orthopaedic surgeons across the United States. To this end, I participated in authoring monthly AAOS Now columns centering on healthcare reform in 2009-2010.

Through my experiences as a WHPF, I also met wonderful people and developed lasting friendships. Currently, I am the co-director of the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institute Center for Health Policy together with Dr. Alex Jahangir (WHPF 09’), whom I met through the program.
