U.S. Bone and Joint Decade Committee
The U.S. Bone and Joint Decade (USBJD) is comprised of over 100 professional and patient organizations. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons was one of the founding participating organizations of the USBJD and has provided significant leadership for this group. The goal of the Decade is to raise awareness of musculoskeletal conditions, as well as to enhance public and professional knowledge, encourage research, and promote advocacy issues within this area through a multidisciplinary approach. Although the Decade encompasses all musculoskeletal conditions, its primary focus is on the greatest burden of disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, trauma, spine issues, and pediatric conditions. The mission of the AAOS Bone and Joint Decade Committee is to increase awareness of the Decade among Academy fellows, create strategies and programs that will involve Academy members, communicate accomplishments, interact with all appropriate organizations to ensure broad-based input from the entire orthopaedic community, as well as to act as a liaison between the Decade and Academy fellows, ensuring the latter, Academy Board and Councils, are kept informed of Decade projects and provided a forum for input into Decade activities.
