Disclosures and Conflicts of Interest

In order to promote transparency in the decisions of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (hereinafter collectively referred to as “AAOS”), the AAOS Board of Directors adopted the AAOS Mandatory Disclosure Policy in February 2007 and revised the Policy in December 2009. In addition, the AAOS Board of Directors also established AAOS Guidelines for Active Management of Conflicts of Interest for AAOS Board of Director and Leadership Positions.

In addition, AAOS created the AAOS Orthopaedic Disclosure Program in 2007 for all AAOS members involved as CME faculty and authors. In 2008, the scope of the AAOS Orthopaedic Disclosure Program was expanded to include all orthopaedic volunteers involved in organizational governance, guidelines development, editors-in-chief and editorial boards must disclose relevant activities or relationships through the AAOS Orthopaedic Disclosure Program. The AAOS Board of Directors approved modifications to improve the AAOS Orthopaedic Disclosure Program and make it more user-friendly in December 2009. These changes are being introduced during the 2010 Annual Meeting.
