Corporate Advisory Council Strategic Plan

Mission Statement

The Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) will function as a forum for the exchange of information of mutual concern to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, and orthopaedic industry, within policy, ethical, judicial, and legislative constructs that govern the relations between industry and organized medicine.

Goals and Strategies

1.0 Goal
Coordinate and oversee the activities of existing groups that address Academy, and industry relations.

    Strategies
    1.1 Periodically review the activities of the following Academy/industry organizational units:
    • Advisory Task Force on Industry and CME (Surgical Skills and OLC activities);
    • International Committee/Industry Advisory Group; and
    • Exhibitors Advisory Council.

2.0 Goal
Encourage and support public education and public relations programs that increase the public's awareness of the special skills of the orthopaedic surgeon and the efficacy of orthopaedic health care.

    Strategies
    2.1 Develop joint and complementary public education and public relations programs, that will increase public awareness of the orthopaedic surgeon and advances in research, treatment modalities and technologies.

    3.0 Goal
    Share information, and periodically review the CME activities of industry and their relationship to the Academy's efforts.

    Strategies
    3.1 Share information on planned CME educational activities.
    3.2 Explore mechanisms for participating companies and Academy to develop CME Courses.

4.0 Goal
Coordinate the financial support of industry for the Academy's educational courses and research projects.

    Strategies
    4.1 Annually share the Academy's planned CME courses and projects, as well as research projects, to enable industry to plan its support of such programs and projects.
