POSITION TITLE:

Financial Analyst

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Analyze actual fiscal performance to budget variances for key activities, including the Board of Directors, and line items, such as Travel, and prepare written explanatory reports and recommendations for improving financial operations. Develops models for analysis for use by AAOS staff.

Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, assists in developing the Academy's annual operating, capital and development budgets processes, including long-range budgeting. Assists departmental staff in the budget process.

Meet with department directors on an ongoing basis to help them (and their staff) to understand the financial performance of their activities to ensure proper and consistent reporting. Generate applicable month-end reports.

Responsible for preparing month end investment return schedules and monthly/quarterly investment reconciliations. Analyzes investment fund information from various sources to determine investments gain/loss. Reconciles various month end investment statements to determine accuracy of final reported market values.

Leads the annual forecasting process. Works with key department staff in reconciling forecasts with actual results.

Responsible for maintaining the fixed asset system. Monitors capital spending projects with responsible directors. Closes & transfers project totals upon completion. Reconciles subsidiary detail ledger to the general ledger. Calculates annual depreciation and prepares summary reports for annual audit. Maintains tracking sheet that compares actual spending to budget.

Prepares special projects from the Chief Financial Officer, Controller and/or Assistant Controller such as taxes and lobbying.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance; Four plus years of financial analysis, modeling and forecasting experience, preferable in a nonprofit environment; exceptional analytical and report writing skills; strong database, spreadsheet, and modeling skills (Epicor and Best FAS experience preferred); excellent verbal and written communication skills.
