Accreditation

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CME Credit

U.S. Physicians: The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons designates this educational activity for a maximum of 31 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

International Physicians: The AMA has determined that physicians not licensed in the United States but who participate in this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.

Allied Health Professionals: The Academy is not accredited to offer credit for Nurses and other Allied Health Professionals. To determine if activities offering Category 1 CME credit are acceptable for your licensing or certification needs please contact the relevant organizations directly.

CME Certificates

The AAOS transcript system will not allow you to claim available CME credit before you officially check in to the meeting. Therefore it is important to check in as soon as you arrive.

Physicians should claim only the number of credits for the learning activities at the Annual Meeting which they actively participated.

CME Certificates for the Annual Meeting and participating Specialty Day events will be located throughout The Moscone Center.

FDA Statement

Some drugs or medical devices demonstrated at the Annual Meeting have not been cleared by the FDA or have been cleared by the FDA for specific purposes only. The FDA has stated that it is the responsibility of the physician to determine the FDA clearance status of each drug or medical devices he or she wishes to use in clinical practice.

Academy policy provides that “off label” uses of a drug or medical device may be described in the Academy’s CME activities so long as the “off label” use of the drug or medical device is also specifically disclosed (i.e. it must be disclosed that the FDA has not cleared the drug or device for the described purpose). Any drug or medical device is being used “off label” if the described use is not set forth on the products approval label.

Global Objectives

  • Obtain a global perspective on the broad range of orthopaedic knowledge and surgical practice
  • Increase knowledge in the fundamentals of orthopaedic surgery in basic and clinical science and all orthopaedic specialty areas

The learning experience in this activity will:

  • Promote education in orthopaedic care
  • Support a forum for discussion of current issues in orthopaedics
  • Provide instructions on procedures related to patient management, patient health, physician performance and outcomes
  • Provide education and information related to the Maintenance of Certification
  • Provide the opportunity for a surgical skills learning experience
  • Provide education in advocacy issues related to orthopaedics
  • Promote patient safety
