I am much more confident in performing any kind of trauma surgery, and at the same time, the residents in my institution are learning how to improve their self-assurance. The AAOS Scholarship helped me to improve the residents' surgical abilities and, most importantly, enhanced the patients' medical assistance. I could say that the AAOS Scholarship opened up my mind to unlimited teaching possibilities and to some brand new ideas!

My professional life in Brazil has changed a lot since I got the AAOS Scholarship. After two months I was promoted to Orthopaedics Residency Coordinator at my institution, and now there are 33 residents under my direct management. AAOS Scholarship gave me the chance to offer patients better and newer options of treatment in trauma surgeries.

Previously we were hesitant to open up the shoulder in managing proximal humerus fractures or an arthroscopy for an acromioplasty. The OLC training helped boost our confidence in managing these shoulder conditions. Seeing firsthand how it is done and doing it myself is a great teaching tool.

I now have the ability to take care of the difficult problems with patients who have complex disorders. For example, 3 months after I came back from the program, I successfully used the technique of C1-2 transarticular screw fixation which I could not do prior to the participating in the scholarship program.

Our current department head was a previous scholarship recipient and his career was definitely positively impacted because he had studied with AAOS.
