AAOS International Surgical Skills Scholarship Program

Program Overview

The AAOS International Surgical Skills Scholarship Program is intended to provide US surgical skills access to deserving orthopaedic surgeons from diverse regions of the world. Four $4,000 scholarships will be awarded in 2008 to eligible orthopaedists with the intended purpose to travel to the United States to take part in an AAOS Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC) hands-on surgical skills course. As part of the scholarship program experience, scholars are offered one- or two-day hospital and private practice visits designed to further enhance their overall experiences in the United States.

Selection Process

Four scholarships are offered each year on a rotating basis to orthopaedic surgeons in one of four geographic regions of the world. The selection of the geographic region rotation is made by the AAOS International Committee. Announcement of the scholarship terms and the selected region are placed on the AAOS website and sent out to international orthopaedic associations and Orthopaedics Overseas program sites in the selected regions. For 2008, Region 3 countries have been selected.

The AAOS Scholarship Candidate Review Committee will select the four winners based on the following criteria:
