Application Process/Application
There are four sections in the application:
- Application questionnaire and personal statements which must be completed online.
Note: As part of the application process, applicants are asked to include personal statements. The statements are an opportunity for applicants, in their own words, to inform AAOS why they want to come to the United States to receive this education, why they are qualified to receive this scholarship (see: Candidate Selection), and how they plan to use this information once they return home. Applicants are requested to inform AAOS about where they work, what type of patients are served, what achievements they are proud of, and why they are in a position to make changes in their community. The personal statement is a critical part of the application and should clearly convey the candidate’s enthusiasm for helping to improve orthopedic care in their community and motivation for seeking this scholarship. - A copy of the applicant’s membership certificate to his or her national or regional orthopaedic society or its equivalent must be sent to AAOS by electronic mail (international@aaos.org) or fax (+1-847-823-0668)
- A copy of the applicants’ Curriculum Vitae must be sent to AAOS by electronic mail (international@aaos.org) or fax (+1-847-823-0668)
- Two letters of recommendation must be sent to AAOS by electronic mail (international@aaos.org) or fax (+1-847-823-0668)
Guidelines for Letters of Recommendation
Note: All applicants must request two letters of recommendation be sent to AAOS by electronic mail or fax. These letters should include a discussion of the strengths of the applicant in the areas noted above (see: Candidate Selection Criteria). If the applicant works in an educational institution, a letter from the Chief of Orthopaedics recommending the applicant and supporting the applicant’s efforts to bring new ideas to their institution must be included. The letters must be written by the person sending the letter.
