Doc PACs spending more this cycle

Physician PACs open their wallets – Some notable physician-led PACs will wind up spending more in this election cycle than they have in the previous two. They’ve traditionally spent more to support Republicans, and that’s been the case this year — they’re favoring the GOP by a 58 percent to 42 percent ratio. The most generous physician PAC, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, is on pace to retain that title: It’s spent $3 million this cycle, about 25 percent more than it spent in 2008. Meanwhile, spending at the American Medical Association and American Society of Anesthesiologists is down slightly from the last presidential election, FEC filings show.
