Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) was created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in 2010. The purpose of PCORI is to fund and conduct research that provides information about the best available evidence to help patients and their health care providers make more informed decisions. PCORI’s research is intended to give patients a better understanding of the prevention, treatment and care options available, and the science that supports those options.
PCORI Funding Announcements
PCORI Funding Announcements (PFAs) are designed to solicit applications for proposals to support a portfolio of comparative clinical effectiveness research based on PCORI’s National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda. Funding announcements aligned with the first four of these areas were released May 22; a fifth PFA is to be released during the summer.
Be a Reviewer of PCORI Funding Applications – PCORI invites professional and lay audiences to be reviewers of research applications submitted in response to PCORI funding announcements. Stakeholder reviewers help PCORI determine which proposals have scientific merit and are patient centered.
Opportunities for Public Comment – PCORI periodically provides formal public comment periods to obtain and incorporate public input and feedback on its work, including draft reports, policies and initiatives.
