Membership Categories:  Active, Military, Ortho in first 2 years of practice, Research Associate Member, Resident, Semi-Retired, Life, Inactive
Requirements for Active Members:  Licensed to practice medicine in CA or resident in orthopaedic surgery in CA or fellow. Recognized to practice orthopaedic surgery by accredited hospital with 90% of professional activities in field of orthopaedic surgery or be certified by an ABMS approved certifying body. When applicable have completed orthopaedic residency program.

CO

Membership Categories:  Regular, Emeritus, Retired/Semi-Retired and Honorary
Requirements for Active Members:  Physicians who are licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy and orthopaedic surgery by the state of Colorado. The physician must be certified or board eligible with respect to orthopaedic surgery by a national credentialing certifying board.
Acceptance of DOs:  Yes – The society admits DOs who meet all requirements.


CT

Requirements for Active Members:  Doctors of medicine/osteopathic medicine who are licensed in the state of Florida and have been engaged in the practice of orthopaedic surgery for at least 4 years in FL.
Acceptance of DOs:  Yes – The society admits DOs who meet all requirements.


GA

Membership Categories:  Active, Emeritus, Inactive and Honorary, Resident
Requirements for Active Members:  Doctors engaged in the practice of orthopaedic surgery and have been in practice in GA for one year or longer. Must be a candidate for examination and certification , or be certified by the ABOS, and must be a lawfully licensed physician in GA.
Acceptance of DOs:  Yes – The society admits DOs who meet all requirements.


HI

Membership Categories:  Full, Associate, Honorary, Emeritus, Resident and Alumni
Requirements for Active Members:  Licensed to practice medicine in the state of HI or be on active duty in the orthopaedic services in the US Armed Forces in HI. Practicing in HI for more than 3 months. Graduates of an ACGME accredited residence program.
Acceptance of DOs:  Yes – The society admits DOs who meet all requirements.


IA

Membership Categories:  Active, Associate, Emeritus, Resident Fellow and Auxiliary
Requirements for Active Members:  Active members include individuals who are diplomats of the ABOS. Associate members have completed orthopaedic training and are considered to be eligible to become diplomats of the ABOS. Associate members can also include other physicians or surgeons who have contributed significantly to the field of orthopaedics . Iowa also has an auxiliary category that includes BONES, AORN, OPA, PT, ATC's.

Must be a member of the AAOS, certified by AOBOS and a member of the AOAOS.

MN

Requirements for Active Members:  Full and unrestricted license to practice in the state of MN. Adherence to principals of medical ethics of the AMA.

Requirements for Active Members:  Membership is open to all medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy who have graduated from an accredited medical or osteopathic schools and have been trained in a residency program approved by the Residency Review Committee on Orthopaedic Surgery. Members must practice orthopaedics exclusively and practice or reside in Missouri or one of the contiguous states.

MS

Graduate of an AMA approved medical school, AOA approved school or osteopathic medicine or have passed an equivalency exam if from school outside the United States . Completed residency program at an AMA approved institution or a program deemed by the board of directors in its sole discretion as being an equivalent program. Have practiced in PA for at least three years. Comply with the dues, fees and assessment requirements of the Board of Directors of the society.

Requirements for Active Members:  Maintains a full unrestricted license to practice medicine in South Carolina . Certified by the AAOS or its equivalent thereof and for 12 months immediately prior to induction been exclusively devoted to the practice of orthopaedic surgery, actively engaged in teaching of orthopaedic surgery or research related to the musculoskeletal system.

TN

Membership Categories:  Active, Emeritus, Honorary, Resident Fellow, and Affiliate Members
Requirements for Active Members:  Graduate from a class A medical school and limit practice exclusively to orthopaedic surgery. Must be in active practice for 1 year in TN. Affiliate members – status is available to physciatrists and occupational medicine specialists. They should be in practice in TN and be associated with an orthopaedic practice for a period of one year.
Acceptance of DOs:  Yes – The state society admits DOs who meet all requirements.


TX

Membership Categories:  Active, Associate, Emeritus, Inactive, Honorary and Resident Fellow
Requirements for Active Members:  Graduate of an approved medical and osteopathic school. Licensed to practice medicine and surgery in Texas . Limits practice to orthopaedic surgery or teaching or research in orthopaedic surgery. Practiced for one year in Texas . Certified by the ABOS.
Acceptance of DOs:  Yes – Must be board certified through ABOS.


VA

Requirements for Active Members:  Limited to individuals who satisfy all qualifications for active membership; reside or maintain an office and practice orthopaedic surgery in the commonwealth of VA , are members of the local medical society where they practice and have successfully completed the examination of the ABOS.

Requirements for Active Members:  Current bylaws require AAOS membership.
Acceptance of DOs:  DOs would be excluded unless they are members of the AAOS. The bylaws are being changed to create a non-voting category for DOs and residents.

Requirements for Active Members:  Physician who maintains full and unrestricted license to practice medicine and pactices at the time of initial membership in the association, within geographic boundaries of the association or outside the US . Fellow in good standing of AAOS or an equivalent organization as determined by the association. Adheres to principals of Medical Ethics of AMA and AOA. Comply with dues fees and bylaws.
