AAOS - What We Offer

The Academy is the word's largest professional association for orthopaedic surgeons. It's mission is to:

  • Foster and assure the highest quality of orthopaedic care
  • Education of orthopaedic surgeons, other healthcare providers, and the public
  • Promote musculoskeletal research
  • Provide leadership in the development of healthcare policy

The Academy sponsors and participates in a wide variety of activities throughout each year including:

  • An annual scientific meeting (the Annual Meeting)
  • Continuing education courses where CME credit can be earned
  • Self-assessment examination programs
  • Scientific publications in its Journal, the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS)
  • A job placement service
  • Healthcare advocacy programs and a communications program with legislative leaders

  • Promulgation of the ethical practice of medicine
  • Analysis of information concerning trends and activities in healthcare delivery
  • Maintenance of liaisons with related musculoskeletal and surgical associations
