Forming a Shared Interest Group (SIG)
A Shared Interest Group (SIG) is a group of a minimum of 20 Fellows with a mutual interest who have applied to constitute and organize a SIG as a means to exchange information of a specific content.
Administrative Services Provided by AAOS:
A volunteer oversight body of the Committee Appointment Program Committee will manage and administer organization of SIGs.
Upon request, meeting room facilities during the Annual Meeting may be arranged for, provided they do not interfere with or take precedence over an Annual Meeting educational activity or formal organizational meeting.
Upon request, A listserv for the SIG may be established allowing open subscription for SIG members.
Principles of SIG Organization:
- SIGs may be formed when 20 Fellows of AAOS submit a formal proposal to the Committee Appointment Program Committee.
- The required content of the proposal shall be determined by the Committee Appointment Program Committee. However, any proposal will contain the following elements:
- A list of the Fellows wanting to form the SIG;
- The purpose of the SIG; and
- The willingness to provide an annual report of activities to the Committee Appointment Program Committee.
- The proposal should also identify what meeting, communication and other resources the SIG may require.
- Approved SIGs will be included as part of the annual council/committee roster. Information will be limited to purpose, date organized, and meeting and communication facilities.
