Volunteer Opportunities

The heart of any association is its membership and the volunteers who give their time for the betterment of their profession. The AAOS is no different, and we’re pleased that every year over two thousand of our members donate their time and skills in various capacities ranging from formal committee work to building playgrounds for underprivileged children in the host cities of our Annual Meetings.

This page lists various volunteer opportunities that we hope each of you will consider at some point in your career. Dr. James Beaty has also written an excellent article in AAOS Now that describes in detail how to get involved with a volunteer activity and what many of those activities are.

Committee Appointment Program
Use this module to learn about all AAOS Council and Committee openings and to apply for consideration by the Committee Appointment Program Committee.
Volunteer Database
Scan this members-only database to find opportunities that are short-term in nature such as peer reviewers, teaching assignments, book authors, and the like. Only those postings that match your membership class are displayed. If you are interested in applying, simply contact the AAOS staff liasion that is listed with the opportunity. (Note: These are not committee assignments or applications.)
Leadership Fellows Program
The Leadership Fellows Program is a one-year program designed to facilitate the development of future AAOS leaders. The LFP combines didactic leadership training with an ongoing mentoring program that matches the participants to an established leader within the AAOS Fellowship.

Media Spokespersons
Media spokespersons speak on behalf of the Academy and answer media inquiries. If you have expertise on a particular topic and enjoy speaking engagements, you may want to add yourself to our spokesperson database.
