AAHKS seeks fellowship applications
Applications for the 2009-2011 American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Health Policy Fellowship (HPF) are due Sept. 1, 2008. The goal of the HPF is to provide patients and physicians with a comprehensive, timely analysis of health policy issues pertaining to hip and knee surgery.

The HPF is open to orthopaedic surgeons in the United States who are now entering or currently participating in a joint/adult reconstruction fellowship, or who have completed this fellowship and are within the first 4 years of their clinical practice of orthopaedic surgery. Applications are available online at www.aahks.org; click on the “health policy” link on the left navigation bar.

ACPOC announces new research award
The Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC) announces an annual New Investigator Research Award, sponsored by Otto Bock HealthCare. The total award will be divided among four winners: $1,000 to the first place winner; $500 each to the second, third, and fourth place winners. Winners must attend the 2009 ACPOC annual meeting and present their papers; registration fees will be waived.

AOA announces Leadership Series schedule
The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), in conjunction with Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, presents a program that brings the critical issues of leadership to the forefront of consideration. The schedule of programs for 2008-2009 follows: Essential Human Resource Skills for Optimal Asset Utilization (Module 4), Sept. 26–28, 2008, and July 17–19, 2009; The Power of Information is in the Numbers (Module 5) Nov. 21–23, 2008, and Nov. 20–22, 2009; Be Equipped to Better Compete (Module 6), Jan. 23–25, 2009.

ASES announces 2009 Exchange Fellowship
The American Shoulder and Elbow Society is now accepting applications for a 4-week European exchange fellowship to begin in the fall of 2009. Applicants must be no more than 6 years out of their fellowship as of Dec. 31, 2008, practicing in the United States or Canada, board-eligible or certified orthopaedic surgeons with a special interest and experience in shoulder and elbow research and patient care. Applications must be submitted no later than Sept. 15, 2008. The candidates will be notified in December 2008.

Register now for ASSH Annual Meeting
The 63rd annual meeting of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), “Extending our Reach Through Ethics, Education and Engagement,” will be held in Chicago, Sept. 18-20. Former Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) will deliver the keynote address at the meeting examining the future of healthcare in America.

Online registrations will be accepted through Sept. 1.

Program highlights include the following: presentation of 70 scientific papers; 14 concurrent symposia; precourses to maximize your time and education; hands-on learning in the computer courses; interactive case review small group discussions; instructional course lectures; industry-sponsored product demonstration workshops; and consultation corners, where you can discuss your most challenging cases and practice management issues.

ORS announces educational grants
The Special Projects Committee (SPC) of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) will be accepting grant applications until Sept. 1, 2008. Grants are available for up to $5,000 for meetings that are pertinent to all, or a significant portion of, the ORS membership. Educational programs need to fulfill the ORS requirements respecting educational and research goals.

Online registration open for OTA annual meeting
Register online now for the 24th Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) annual meeting and comprehensive fracture course for residents, Oct. 15-18, 2008, in Denver, Colo. The online registration deadline is Oct. 1; faxed registrations must be received by Sept. 24. Online registration is available at www.ota.org
