AANA concludes traveling fellowship
The fourth annual Advanced Arthroscopy Traveling Fellowship concluded at the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) Annual Meeting. The 2009 Traveling Fellows—Alexis C. Colvin, MD, New York; Peter Lapner, MD, Ottawa, Canada; and John C. Macy, MD, South Burlington, Vt.—accompanied by Donald H. Johnson, MD, visited six sites.

ASSH registration deadlines near
August 14, 2009, is the advance registration deadline for the 2009 combined meeting of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) & American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT). The meeting will be held Sept. 3–5, 2009, at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco.
The 2009 Combined Meeting is a forum for hand and upper extremity care professionals to gather together, exchange information, and elevate the specialty to new heights. With more than 3,400 physicians, therapists, and related healthcare professionals specializing in hand, orthopaedic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery expected to attend, the educational program will focus on the newest developments in the field, improved surgical techniques, and therapeutic options.
Registration is now open for the 2009 Master Skills Series: Tendon Repair and Reconstruction, which will be held Oct. 16–17, 2009, at the SM Institute in Burr Ridge, Ill. The registration deadline is Oct. 1, 2009.
This 2-day course has been designed to allow the participant to split time equally between lectures and lab work. Lectures are presented by recognized expert educators; hands-on practice in a state-of-the-art cadaver lab will emphasize and reinforce the didactic information.

CSRS registration now open
Registration is now open for the 2009 Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS) Instructional Course and Annual Meeting. The 14th Instructional Course will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009; session topics include surgical techniques videos, complications, cervical arthroplasty, and osteobiologics of the cervical spine.
The course immediately precedes the 37th annual meeting of the CSRS, held Dec. 3–5, 2009, at the Grand American Hotel, in Salt Lake City. Frank M. Phillips, MD, is the program chair.

Hip Society issues request for papers
The Hip Society is seeking papers from training programs or practicing orthopaedic surgeons for presentation at the annual Hip Society meeting. Papers may be submitted for the Otto Aufranc, John Charnley, or Frank Stinchfield Awards, based on the following criteria:
The Otto Aufranc and John Charnley Awards—Papers submitted in these categories are to be based on innovative research, either clinical or basic, encompassing important advances in the management of hip disorders.
The Frank Stinchfield Award—This prize is given to a resident or fellow in training who submits an outstanding contribution concerning hip problems.
All submissions should be original work that has not been previously published or submitted for publication. Please indicate if your submission is a resident or fellow paper for the Frank Stinchfield Award. Submitted papers must be in publishable form. Papers should be submitted by Nov. 1, 2009.
Submissions must meet the published guidelines for Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (https://www.editorialmanager.com/corr/). All manuscripts must be electronically submitted at the same Web site. When asked for “article type,” authors should select “Society Awards;” when asked for “Section/Category,” authors should select “2010 Hip Society Awards.” (Failure to properly select the proper article type and section/category may result in incorrect processing and elimination from consideration for the intended award.)
ORS issues call for abstracts
The Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) is seeking abstracts for its 56th annual meeting, March 6–9, 2010, in New Orleans. You do not need to be a member of the ORS to submit an abstract. Abstracts should be on topics of immediate and future concern to individuals engaged in research related to the musculoskeletal system. The online process is user-friendly and provides e-mail confirmation that your submission was received. Online abstract submission closes at 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2009.
ORS announces new awards
To foster excellence in orthopaedic research and increase the representation of original research in clinical and translational medical research among clinician scientists, the ORS announces the “ORS Travel Awards in Orthopaedic Research Translation.”
This award will recognize five clinician scientists/clinical investigators in the early stages of their career who have played a key or leading role in an original research project in clinical or translational medicine, and who have demonstrated excellence in training and a commitment to orthopaedic research. Recipients of the ORS Travel Award in Research Translation will present their work at a Clinical and Translational Research Award Session at the ORS Annual Meeting and will receive a $500 honorarium, travel reimbursement for attendance at the ORS Annual Meeting (up to $1000), and free annual meeting registration for 2 years.
Award determinations will be made based on the quality of the applicant’s study described in a submitted abstract in the area of clinical or translational research as determined by the ORS Special Projects Committee and Program Committee, and satisfaction of all eligibility criteria.
ORS seeks educational grant applications
The ORS Special Projects Committee will be accepting grant applications for meetings that are pertinent to all, or a significant portion of, the ORS membership until Sept. 1, 2009. Grants may be available for up to $10,000 for educational programs that fulfill the ORS requirements for educational and research goals.
POSNA Job Board now online
The Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) now has a secure, password-protected Web site designed to match practicing pediatric orthopaedic surgeons and pediatric orthopaedic fellows with their ideal pediatric orthopaedic surgery jobs. The Job Board continues the POSNA mission of providing “the highest quality education of pediatric orthopaedists thereby assuring the best possible care of musculoskeletal pediatric patients.”
Job searchers can search efficiently and free of charge using their POSNA identification number or AAOS ID number. Search all jobs or tailor the search by state, percentage of time focused in pediatric orthopaedics, or subspecialty areas of interest.
Employers can effectively reach their audience and advertise their pediatric orthopaedic surgery positions. They can include information on percent time in pediatric orthopaedics, and subspecialty focus if desired. Payment can be made securely online. Postings automatically expire in 6 months with friendly monthly contact from the POSNA office.
