2012 ASES Research Grant
Applications are now being accepted for the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) 2012 Research Grant Award. The $20,000 grant is for basic or clinical investigations and is open to orthopaedic departments only; proposals must be in NIH R01 format and no longer than 10 pages. The application deadline is Sept. 8, 2011.

OTA annual meeting and residents course
The Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) annual meeting, to be held Oct. 12–15, 2011, in San Antonio, will feature podium presentations, scientific posters, technical exhibits, symposia, hands-on skills labs, and case presentations. Premeeting opportunities to obtain additional continuing medical education credits include the Basic Science Focus Forum, Masters Level Trauma Coding, and Young Practitioner’s Forum.
The OTA Comprehensive Fracture Course for Residents will focus on all aspects of orthopaedic trauma care via small group discussions, case discussions, and hands-on skills labs that emphasize common fracture stabilization and fixation techniques. ACPOC seeks abstract submissions
The Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC) is accepting online abstract submissions for its 2012 Annual Meeting, which will be held April 11–14, 2012, at the Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta, Canada. Topics of specific interest include spinal orthoses, orthoses used with limb lengthening, tibial deficiency (salvage vs. amputation), clubfoot orthoses, limb salvage in the treatment of malignant tumors, and orthotic use in arthrogryposis. Apply for CORR Multimedia Award
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (CORR), in conjunction with The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons and Springer, announces the Best Multimedia Article Award. Consideration for the $5,000 annual award will be given to articles showing unique and/or distinct observations and illustrations with video clips that complement and reinforce information published in print, based on novelty, uniqueness, clarity, professionalism, and succinctness. CORR will reimburse authors $500 to defray the costs of producing multimedia material for any accepted article. There is a size limit of 60 MB or 6 minutes per upload.

Hip Society call for papers
The Hip Society announces three awards for papers submitted from the various training programs or from practicing orthopaedic surgeons for presentation at the 2012 Hip Society meeting. The Otto Aufranc and John Charnley Awards recognize innovative research, either clinical or basic, encompassing important advances in the management of hip disorders. The Frank Stinchfield Award is given to a resident or fellow in training who submits an outstanding contribution concerning hip problems.
The author(s) of each winning award paper will receive a $2,000 honorarium. Papers must be submitted by Dec. 1, 2011.

USBJD/I seeks applicants for mentoring program
The United States Bone and Joint Decade/Initiative (USBJD/I) grant mentoring program provides early-career clinical investigators an opportunity to work with experienced researchers in the field who can assist them in securing funding and other skills.
The program is open to promising junior faculty, senior fellows, or postdoctoral researchers nominated by their department or division chairs and to senior fellows or residents who are doing research and have a faculty appointment in place or confirmed. Basic and clinical investigators, without or with training awards (including K awards) are invited to apply.
Selected investigators attend two workshops and work with faculty between workshops to develop their grant applications. The next workshop will take place in the spring of 2012 in Canada.
