AOSSM membership application deadlines
The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s (AOSSM) candidate membership application deadline is Dec. 15, 2009. For more information or membership applications, visit www.sportsmed.org or call the Society office at (847) 292-4900.

Volunteers sought for research projects
The AOSSM is seeking volunteers to help conduct two research projects that focus on elbow and shoulder problems in young pitchers (9–18 years old). The first project is a survey-based study that assesses the extent to which young pitchers engage in types and levels of throwing that may put them at risk for overuse injuries. The second project will target pitchers who seek treatment from an orthopaedic surgeon and explore the relationships among pitching variables, elbow and shoulder overuse injuries, and adaptive changes to the elbow and shoulder.

AOSSM members with ties to youth leagues or teams in their communities and those who treat 20 or more young pitchers each year are needed to help with the studies. For additional information, contact Bart Mann, AOSSM research director, at bart@aossm.org
