AOFAS issues call for abstracts
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is accepting abstracts for its 2013 Annual Meeting, July 17–20, 2013, in Hollywood, Fla. The deadline for online submissions is Dec. 12, 2012. For more information, visit www.aofas.org/annual-meeting

AOFAS journal gets new look
Beginning in January 2013, Foot & Ankle International (FAI) will feature a new cover design, digitized archival content back to Volume 1, and increased international reach. AOFAS seeks new members
The submission deadline for new AOFAS membership applications is Jan. 1, 2013. Membership includes subscriptions to FAI and In~Stride; reduced meeting, course and product fees; access to awards and special programs; and more. Current members who completed training in 2012 and are now in practice are required to apply to elevate to the next appropriate membership category by Jan. 1, 2013, to maintain full benefits. ASSH Comprehensive Care of the High Level Athlete
The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) is sponsoring the Comprehensive Care of the High Level Athlete course, May 3–4, 2013, in Chicago. ASSH annual meeting submission deadlines
The ASSH 68th Annual Meeting will be held Oct. 3–5, 2013, in San Francisco. The submission deadline for paper presentation abstracts and residents and fellows conference papers and posters is March 4. The submission deadline for e-poster presentations is March 25, 2013. NASS Pilot Registry
The North American Spine Society (NASS) is launching a pilot registry program to collect data on spine treatment outcomes. The pilot is intended to test the data collection process over 15 months, with a goal of establishing a permanent registry. For more information, visit www.spine.org

POSNA Specialty Day

Apply for the USBJI grant mentoring program
The United States Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) grant mentoring program provides early-career clinical investigators an opportunity to work with experienced researchers to assist them in securing funding and other survival skills required for pursuing an academic career. The program offers attendees the opportunity to maintain relationships with mentors until their application is funded.

The grant mentoring program is open to promising junior faculty, senior fellows or postdoctoral researchers nominated by their department or division chairs. It is also open to senior fellows or residents who are doing research and have a faculty appointment in place or confirmed. Basic and clinical investigators, without or with training awards (including K awards), are invited to apply.

Investigators selected to take part in the program will attend two workshops, 12 to18 months apart, and work with faculty between workshops to develop their grant applications.

The next workshop will take place April 26–28, 2013, in Rosemont, Ill. The deadline for applications is Jan. 15, 2013. For more information, visit www.usbji.org/rd/?yii
