ORS holds first official Women’s Leadership Forum events

The Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF) will hold its first official dinner meeting on Sunday, March 2, 2008, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Parc 55 Hotel in San Francisco. The group is also presenting a workshop on Osteoarthritis (Osteoarthritis: The Impact of Sexual Dimorphism) on Sunday, March 2, 2008, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Room 2005-11 of the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco.

ORS past presidents Adele L. Boskey, PhD, and Linda J. Sandell, PhD, founded the WLF with Clare Rimnac, PhD, 2007–2008 ORS Program Committee chair. The forum has two major goals: to prepare women for leadership in the ORS and to foster women’s careers in orthopaedic research.

“We seek to encourage and inspire women at the start of their careers so that the orthopaedic research base can reflect the number of women receiving training in engineering, biology, and orthopaedic surgery,” said Dr. Boskey.

The WLF’s mission dovetails with the larger goals of the ORS, which include disseminating research knowledge, advocating for increased research resources, and increasing awareness of the importance and impact of such research on orthopaedic patients and the public. The ORS also promotes and encourages the development and availability of clinician scientists and basic scientists to ensure the existence of continuing research efforts that help patients receive the highest quality musculoskeletal care.
