BOC seeks nominations for State Society, Executive Director awards
Each year, the Board of Councilors (BOC) State Orthopaedic Societies Committee honors a state society and an executive director for their excellent work and dedication to the orthopaedic community. The awards, which include a cash honorarium, will be presented at the National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference in Washington, DC, on April 7, 2011. Nominations are due by Feb. 21, 2011. ASSH online Journal Club launches new format
The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) online Journal Club includes citations and short summaries of key articles relevant to hand and upper extremity surgery. The new format introduces a “Featured Article” and an instructive critique of the data provided by members of the ASSH Evidence-Based Practice Committee. AOA seeks traveling fellowship applicants
The application deadline for the Spring 2012 American Orthopaedic Association (AOA)/Austrian, Swiss, German Traveling Fellowship is May 2, 2011. The fellowship is open to orthopaedic surgeons who are 49 years of age or younger as of Dec. 31, 2011, and who are certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) (written and oral examinations) at the time of application.

The application deadline for the Spring 2012 AOA/Japanese Orthopaedic Association Traveling Fellowship is also May 2, 2011. Applicants must be AAOS fellows younger than 40 years of age as of Dec. 31, 2011, and must be certified by the ABOS (written and oral examinations) at the time of application. Past American, British, and Canadian and North American Traveling Fellowship recipients are not eligible. For more information, visit www.aoassn.org

ASES issues call for abstracts
The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) invites abstracts for the following meetings: ASES 2011 closed meeting, Oct 12–15, 2011, The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; ASES 2012 open meeting, Feb. 11, 2012, San Francisco; and the 8th Biennial AAOS/ASES Shoulder and Elbow Course, spring 2012, location to be determined. AOSSM announces research excellence awards
The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) is accepting submissions for the T. David Sisk Awards for Research Excellence in clinical, laboratory, and international research. The winners will be selected from the best papers submitted in each category; winners will be announced at the AOSSM Annual Meeting in San Diego, July 7–10, 2011. Submit abstracts for NZOA/AOA combined meeting
Registration is now open for the 2011 combined meeting of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association (NZOA), Oct. 9–14, in Rotorua, New Zealand. The deadline for abstract submissions is Feb. 28; authors will be notified by May 1. Attendees are encouraged to make their reservations as soon as possible, because the meeting coincides with the 2011 Rugby World Cup. For more information, visit www.aoanzoa2011.co.nz

ASSH issues call for abstracts
The ASSH welcomes abstract submissions for paper presentations, residents, and fellows conference paper/posters, e-posters, international guest posters, and video theater for the ASSH 66th Annual Meeting, Sept. 8–10, 2011, in Las Vegas. Abstracts for papers and resident/fellow papers and posters are due Feb. 21; abstracts for scientific and international guest posters are due March 13. Video theatre submissions are due April 26.

Knee Society seeks abstracts
The Knee Society is accepting abstracts for the 2011 Knee Society Members Meeting (Sept. 15–17, 2011, in London, Ontario, Canada) and the 2012 Specialty Day (Feb. 11, 2012, in San Francisco). Only Knee Society members can submit abstracts for consideration for the 2011 Members Meeting; anyone may submit abstracts for Award Paper consideration for the 2012 Specialty Day.

OTA Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course
The Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course will be held April 28–30, 2011, in Schaumburg, Ill. The redesigned course will be presented in six separate small-group modules, each with 20 residents and three or four experienced faculty educators. Topics include the fundamental principles of fracture care for diaphyseal, articular, and foot and ankle fractures, as well as for geriatrics, pediatrics, and pelvis/polytrauma. The modules will include mini-lectures, case-based discussions, video demonstrations of techniques, and participatory lab exercises. PGY-2 and PGY-4 level residents are encouraged to attend. Plan to attend the 2011 ACPOC annual meeting
Registration is now open for the 2011 Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC) Annual Meeting, March 30–April 2, at The Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah. The meeting is designed for physicians and other health professionals who care for children, adolescents, and young adults with orthopaedic and related disabilities. Alabama Orthopaedic Society promotes public safety
With the help of the Alabama Orthopaedic Society (AOS), the Alabama Department of Public Safety (ADPS) has developed a statewide “Don’t Text and Drive” campaign. The effort is part of the AAOS national campaign to educate the public on the dangers of texting while driving. The Alabama campaign includes television spots, radio spots, newspaper articles, and personal visits/speeches at high schools across the state.

At the request of the AOS and the ADPS, Alabama’s then-governor Bob Riley issued a Formal Proclamation denoting December 2010 as “Don’t Text and Drive Month in Alabama.”
