Patient safety, patient satisfaction, and successful outcomes rely on understanding both your patients’ medical needs, and their communication and culturally based preferences. That’s why AAOS created the Cultural Competency Challenge and the Culturally Competent Care Guidebook. |
The AAOS Culturally Competent Care Guidebook, a free resource edited by Ramon L. Jimenez, MD, and Valerae O. Lewis, MD, recently became available online to all AAOS fellows and resident members. The guidebook and convenient tip sheets can be used to enhance communication with patients from various ethnic backgrounds. In addition, case studies from the Academy’s Cultural Competency Challenge CD-ROM provide a way to test one’s cultural competency and learn about interacting effectively with a diverse patient population.
Orthopaedists can use these educational resources to earn as many as 6 AMAPRA Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits™. The educational materials are available at http://www.aaos.org/ccc
