Don’t miss Specialty Day 2011

AAHKS Specialty Day programs
Co-sponsored by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the Hip Society and the Knee Society Specialty Day Programs will take place Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, in conjunction with the AAOS Annual Meeting in San Diego. Open to all orthopaedic surgeons interested in current issues in adult hip and knee reconstructive surgery, the concurrent programs will be held from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. at the San Diego Marriot Hotel & Marina. RJOS annual meeting

Plan to attend the ASSH combined meeting
The 5th Combined Meeting of the American and Japanese Societies for Surgery of the Hand will be held March 26–29, 2011, at the Wailea Resort, Maui, Hawaii. The registration deadline is Feb. 24. Conducted in English, the scientific program will include paper presentations, symposia, keynote lectures, and poster exhibits. Apply now for OMeGA fellowship grants
OMeGA Medical Grants Association’s next application cycle supports the 2011–2012 and 2012–2013 academic years. Grants in nine orthopaedic specialties are available to orthopaedic fellowship programs in the Americas. Grant recipients will be announced in early March 2011, allowing programs to declare OMeGA funding on their match applications for the 2012–2013 academic year. The application deadline is Jan. 21, 2011.

The International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT) offers AAOS members access to international orthopaedic perspectives and cutting-edge research. SICOT’s mission is to promote the advancement of science and the art of orthopaedics and traumatology at the international level, particularly through its multi-national publications, triennial world congress, and annual international meeting.

Established in Paris in 1929, SICOT is currently headquartered in Belgium and represents more than 110 countries. SICOT USA provides access to several international orthopaedic societies and aid agencies, including the World Health Organization, the World Orthopaedic Concern, and the International Research Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology. SICOT members can participate at educational centers located in several developing countries as well as through the Telediagnostics Project, which provides online consultations. OTA Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course
The Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course will be held April 28–30, 2011, in Schaumburg, Ill. The redesigned course will be presented in six separate small-group modules consisting of 20 residents and three or four experienced faculty educators per module. Topics include the fundamental principles of care for diaphyseal, articular, foot and ankle, geriatric, pediatric, and pelvis/polytrauma fractures. The modules will include a rapid-fire series of mini-lectures, extensive open case-based discussions, video demonstrations of techniques, and participatory lab exercises. PGY-2 and PGY-4 residents are encouraged to attend. Registration and housing scholarships are available. For more information, visit www.ota.org
