OMeGA awards GME grants

OMeGA Medical Grants Association announced that 71 graduate medical education (GME) grants have been awarded for the 2010–2011 academic year. The list of grant recipients is online at www.omegamedicalgrants.org
Grant recipients were chosen from 218 applications submitted by academic programs in the Americas. The nonconflicted OMeGA board and review committee evaluated applications based on objective educational criteria and thorough knowledge of the academic environment.
OMeGA awarded fellowship grants up to $75,000 in nine subspecialty categories: adult reconstruction/arthroplasty (17), foot and ankle (1), hand and upper limb (3), orthopaedic oncology (3), orthopaedic sports medicine (5), pediatric orthopaedics (1), shoulder and elbow (6), spine (5), and trauma (5).
In addition, 21 residency/general education grants up to $5,000 were awarded for educational activities, which included developing an arthroscopy skills course, visiting professors, cadaver specimens, surgical skills lab, journal club, resident research day, motor skills lab, and a biomechanics immersion course.
