AAHKS courses coincide with annual meeting
The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Physician Extender Joint Arthroplasty Course will be held in Dallas, Nov. 4, 2011, prior to the AAHKS annual meeting. This course has been specifically created for advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and surgical assistants specializing in total joint arthroplasty.
The AAHKS 3rd Annual Resident Course (for residents in R3 year of orthopaedic training) will also be held Nov. 4, in Dallas. Course attendees receive free tuition for both the Resident Arthroplasty Course and the AAHKS annual meeting. Cochaired by Craig J. Della Valle, MD; Michael E. Berend, MD; and Jay R. Lieberman, MD, this course provides residents with the opportunity to learn the latest information regarding total joint arthroplasty from nationally renowned experts.

Hip Society call for papers
The Hip Society announces three awards for papers submitted from the various training programs or from practicing orthopaedic surgeons for presentation at the 2012 Hip Society meeting. The Otto Aufranc and John Charnley Awards recognize innovative research, either clinical or basic, encompassing important advances in the management of hip disorders. The Frank Stinchfield Award is given to a resident or fellow in training who submits an outstanding contribution concerning hip problems.
Any or all of these awards are granted annually at the discretion of the Society’s Awards Committee. The author(s) of each winning award paper will receive a $2,000 honorarium. Papers must be submitted by Dec. 1, 2011.

2012 AAHS annual meeting
The 2012 annual meeting of the American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS) will be held in collaboration with the Brazilian Society for Surgery of the Hand (Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia da Mao), in Las Vegas, Jan. 11–14, 2012. For more information, visit http://handsurgery.org/meeting/
Winter 2011 OREF/CCJR Clinical Practice Award
The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) invites applications for the Winter 2011 OREF/Current Concepts in Joint Replacement (CCJR) Clinical Practice Award. This award recognizes completed investigations focusing on healthcare policy, clinical outcomes, or translational research that have immediate clinical impact in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The primary author will present at the Winter CCJR meeting in Orlando, Fla., in December 2011, and will receive a $2,000 award and travel reimbursement. The application deadline is Sept. 1, 2011.
Apply now for 2012 ASES Research Grant
Applications are now being accepted for the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) 2012 Research Grant Award. The $20,000 grant is for basic or clinical investigations and is open to orthopaedic departments only; proposals must be in NIH R01 format and no longer than 10 pages. The application deadline is Sept. 8, 2011.

MAOA annual meeting scholarships
The Mid-America Orthopaedic Association (MAOA) is accepting applications for education grants for senior residents/fellows and new fellows in practice (first 2 years) to attend the 2012 annual meeting. The grants are $2,500 each; the deadline for application submission is Nov. 1, 2011.
