AAHKS hosts premeeting courses
The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Orthopaedic Team Member Course will be held in Dallas, Nov. 2, 2012, prior to the AAHKS annual meeting. This course has been specifically created for advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and surgical assistants specializing in total joint arthroplasty. Expert faculty will present diagnostic and radiographic work-ups and review physical exams, office-based procedures, and differential diagnoses. The AAHKS 3rd Annual Resident Course (for PGY3 residents) will also be held in Dallas on Nov. 2. This course provides residents with the opportunity to learn the latest information regarding total joint arthroplasty from nationally known experts. Course attendees receive free tuition for both the Resident Arthroplasty Course and the AAHKS annual meeting, airfare up to $400, lodging, and meals. The application deadline is July 6, 2012, and all applications must be accompanied by a letter from the residency program director confirming the applicant’s ability to attend the course. 2013 ASES Research Grant Award
Applications are now being accepted for the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) 2013 Research Grant Award. The $20,000 grant is for basic or clinical investigations and is open to orthopaedic departments only; proposals must be in NIH R01 format and no longer than 10 pages. 2013 ASES Exchange Fellowship applications
The ASES is accepting applications for its 2013 Exchange Fellowship Program. The 2013 Traveling Fellows are eligible for an ASES Research Grant and receive an expense-paid trip to the ASES Closed Meeting the following year to present their travel experiences. AFSH Hand Surgery Resident and Fellow Fast Track Grants
The American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand (AFSH) has established the Hand Surgery Resident and Fellow Fast Track Grants to seed innovative projects related to hand surgery. Hand surgery fellows or surgical residents in ACGME-accredited programs are eligible to apply. Funding is limited to one applicant per institution; up to $4,000 will be awarded per project. Hip Society announces new traveling fellowship
The Hip Society Rothman-Ranawat Traveling Fellowship is open to four young orthopaedic surgeons from around the world who have completed all appropriate training in orthopaedic surgery and have accomplished specific training in the field of hip surgery. Knee Society Specialty Day recordings
Video and audio recordings of the Knee Society’s Specialty Day scientific program, held during the AAOS 2012 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, are available online. Apply now for MAOA Traveling Fellowship
The Mid-America Orthopaedic Association (MAOA) is accepting applications for its Traveling Fellowship (two awards of up to a maximum of $5,000 each) and Multipurpose Resident Grant Program (three awards of $4,000 each). The deadline for application submissions is July 2, 2012.

MAOA seeks abstracts
The MAOA is now accepting online abstract submissions for scientific paper and poster presentations at its annual meeting, April 17–21, 2013, at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation at Amelia Island, Fla. OMeGA 2013–2014 fellowship grant recipients
OMeGA Medical Grants Association announced that 53 U.S. and Canadian programs have been awarded graduate medical education (GME) grants for the 2013–2014 academic year. OMeGA awarded fellowship grants in nine specialty categories: adult reconstruction/arthroplasty, foot and ankle, hand and upper extremity, orthopaedic oncology, orthopaedic sports medicine, pediatric orthopaedics, shoulder and elbow, spine, and trauma. ORS invites abstract submissions
The Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) seeks abstract submissions for the ORS Annual Meeting, Jan. 26–29, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. Abstract submissions will be accepted beginning on June 11. New trauma courses at OTA annual meeting
New trauma courses—including a 1-day grant writing workshop cosponsored by the Orthopaedic Research Society—will be offered as part of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association’s (OTA) 2012 annual meeting, Oct. 3–6, 2012, in Minneapolis. Also being offered are a 2-day orthopaedic trauma boot camp co-chaired by Robert F. Ostrum, MD; Daniel S. Horwitz, MD; and Steven J. Morgan, MD; an orthopaedic trauma nursing course chaired by Paul J. Dougherty, MD; and an orthopaedic trauma course for nurse practitioners and physician assistants led by Michael T. Volunteer with Operation Walk USA
Operation Walk USA is a medical humanitarian organization that provides free hip or knee replacement surgeries to uninsured, underinsured, or poverty-stricken patients in the United States who are afflicted with disabling arthritis and other debilitating bone and joint conditions. Through its national network of volunteer orthopaedic surgeons, hospitals, nurses, physical therapists, and others, Operation Walk USA is committed to restoring mobility, dignity, and productivity to patients in need. USBJI seeks young investigators
The United States Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) grant mentoring program provides early-career clinical investigators an opportunity to work with experienced researchers to assist them in securing funding and other skills required for pursuing an academic career. The program offers attendees the opportunity to maintain relationships with mentors until their application is funded.

The grant mentoring program is open to promising junior faculty, senior fellows, or postdoctoral researchers nominated by their department or division chairs. It is also open to senior fellows or residents who are doing research and have a faculty appointment in place or confirmed. Basic and clinical investigators, without or with training awards (including K awards), are invited to apply.

Investigators selected to take part in the program will attend two workshops, 12 to18 months apart, and work with faculty between workshops to develop their grant applications.
