Temporary SGR Fix Approved

As this issue of AAOS Now went to press, the House and Senate had passed the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012. The Act extends current payments under the Medicare fee-for-service physician payment schedule through Dec. 31, 2012, thus averting a potential 27.4 percent cut under the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula, scheduled to go into effect on March 1, 2012. It also requires that the Government Accountability Office and the Department of Health and Human Services submit reports to help Congress develop a long-term replacement for the SGR formula.
