AAHKS offers resident course
The Second Annual Resident Arthroplasty Course sponsored by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) will be held Nov. 5, 2010, in Dallas. This course is specifically for residents in the R3 year of orthopaedic surgery training. Course attendees will receive free tuition for both the Resident Arthroplasty Course and the AAHKS Annual Meeting.

To apply, residents should e-mail their full name, address, and phone number to Eileen Lusk. All applications must be accompanied by a letter from the residency program director confirming the resident’s availability to attend the course. For more information, visit www.aahks.org

Register for the AOFAS Summer Meeting
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) will hold its 26th annual event July 7–10, 2010, at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, Md. The premeeting course will be held on July 7.

Program Chair Mark E. Easley, MD, guarantees a broad range of topics critical to today’s orthopaedic foot and ankle care professional.

AOFAS seeks Specialty Day abstracts
Abstracts are now being accepted for the AOFAS 41st Annual Specialty Day meeting, Feb. 19, 2011, in San Diego. The abstract submission deadline is June 7, 2010.

AOFAS membership application deadline
June 1 is the deadline for receipt of new and elevating member application documents by the AOFAS. Applicants will be notified of the aoutcome of the final member vote following the Business Meeting held during the AOFAS Annual Summer Meeting.

2011 ASES Exchange Fellowship applications
The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) is accepting applications for its 2011 Exchange Fellowship Program. Traveling Fellows are eligible for an ASES Research Grant and receive an expense-paid trip to the ASES Closed Meeting the following year to present their travel experiences. The application deadline date is Sept. 15, 2010.

Apply now for ASES research grant
Applications are now being accepted for the ASES 2011 Research Grant Award. The $20,000 grant is for basic or clinical investigations and is open to orthopaedic departments only; proposals must be in NIH R01 format and no longer than 10 pages. The application deadline date is Sept. 9, 2010.

ASSH deadlines
Applications for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) Bunnell Traveling Fellowship are due June 1.

The Adrian E. Flatt Residents and Fellows Conference in Hand Surgery, held the day before the ASSH Annual Meeting, is specifically geared toward hand surgery residents and fellows in orthopaedic, plastic, and general surgery. Papers must be submitted by June 30; early applications are encouraged. For more information on both these opportunities, visit www.assh.org

Hip Society Awards 2011
The Hip Society announces three awards
for papers submitted from the various training programs or from practicing orthopaedic surgeons for presentation at the 2011 Hip Society meeting. The Otto Aufranc and John Charnley Awards recognize innovative research, either clinical or basic, encompassing important advances in the management of hip disorders. The Frank Stinchfield Award is given to a resident or fellow in training who submits an outstanding contribution concerning hip problems. Papers must be submitted by Dec. 1, 2010.

Knee Society extends abstract deadline date
The deadline date for abstract submissions for the 2010 Knee Society Members Meeting (Sept. 9–11, Rochester, Minn.) and the 2011 Specialty Day (Feb. 19 in San Diego) has been extended to June 1, 2010. Only Knee Society members can submit abstracts for consideration for the 2010 Members Meeting; anyone may submit abstracts for Award Paper consideration for the 2011 Specialty Day.

Visit the POSNA job board
The Pediatric Society of North America’s (POSNA) job board is a free service that allows POSNA and AAOS members to search all jobs or tailor their searches by state, percentage of time focused in pediatric orthopaedics, or subspecialty areas of interest.

Plan to attend the OTA annual meeting
The Orthopaedic Trauma Association’s (OTA) annual meeting will be held Oct. 13–16, 2010, in Baltimore. Highlights include podium presentations, scientific posters, technical exhibits, symposia, hands-on skills labs, and case presentations.

In addition, pre-annual meeting opportunities to obtain additional continuing medical education credits include Basic Science Focus Forum; Masters Level Trauma Coding; Mass Casualty Management: Principles & Practice; and Young Practitioner’s Forum.

Participants in the Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course will have the opportunity to learn from more than 60 OTA members.

USBJD seeks Young Investigators
The United States Bone and Joint Decade’s (USBJD) Young Investigators Initiative is a grant mentoring program that provides early-career clinical investigators an opportunity to work with experienced researchers in the field and assist them in securing funding and other survival skills required for pursuing an academic career.

The deadline to apply is July 15, 2010.

2010 COS annual meeting
The Clinical Orthopaedic Society (COS) will hold its 2010 annual meeting Sept. 23–25, at the Ritz Carlton Denver.
