AOFAS issues call for applications, abstracts

The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is seeking applications for the following 2011 opportunities:

  • Research Grant Awards—Annual grants of up to $20,000 are awarded; the principal investigator or co-investigator must be an AOFAS member in practice. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2010.
  • Traveling Fellowship Awards—Open to AOFAS members age 45 or younger and to nonmembers of the same age who apply for membership simultaneously. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2010.
  • Overseas Outreach Projects—Travel to Vietnam or Uganda to provide foot and ankle care to underserved children and adults. Open to AOFAS members in practice; participants pay their own travel costs. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2010, for Vietnam; the Uganda project has a rolling application process.
  • Membership—Open to orthopaedists in training or practice with interest in the advancement of orthopaedic knowledge of foot and ankle care. Benefits information and application forms are available on the Web (www.aofas.org). The next application deadline is Jan. 1, 2011.
  • Resident Scholarship Program—AOFAS scholarship awards for orthopaedic residents to attend the 2011 AOFAS Annual Summer Meeting are open to PGY2 and PGY3 residents. Applications are due March 1, 2011.

RJOS annual meeting
The 2011 Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) annual meeting will be held the evening of Feb. 15, 2011, in conjunction with the AAOS Annual Meeting in San Diego. The RJOS 2011 annual luncheon will take place Feb. 18, 2011. For more information, visit www.rjos.org

Apply for OREF adult reconstruction grants
The Orthopaedic Research & Education Foundation (OREF) will be awarding grants of up to $25,000 to continuing medical education (CME) programs focused on hip and/or knee arthroplasty held during calendar year 2011. The deadline for applications is Nov. 23, 2010. For more information, visit www.oref.org

OMEGA grant application deadline
OMeGA is currently accepting applications for 2-year fellowship grants that cover the 2011–2012 and 2012–2013 academic years. This timing allows grant recipient programs in all specialties except the shoulder category (which has an early notification date in December) to rely on OMeGA funding for their match applications and fellow selections. The application deadline is Jan. 21, 2011.

NASS seeks abstracts for 2011 Chicago meeting
The North American Spine Society (NASS) is currently accepting abstracts for its 26th annual meeting, Nov. 1–5, 2011, in Chicago. All abstracts must be submitted electronically no later than Feb. 1, 2011. To submit your abstract, visit www.spine.org
