AOFAS calls for applications, abstracts
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is seeking abstracts for its 2013 annual meeting, July 17–20, in Hollywood, Fla. The deadline for abstracts is Dec. 12, 2012. For more information, visit www.aofas.org/annualmeeting

In addition, the AOFAS encourages eligible applicants to take advantage of the following 2013 opportunities:

  • Traveling Fellowship Awards—Open to AOFAS members age 45 or younger. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2012.
  • Research Grant Awards—Annual grants of up to $20,000 are awarded; the principal investigator or co-investigator must be an AOFAS member. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2012.
  • Overseas Outreach Project to Vietnam—Open to AOFAS members. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2012.
  • Membership—Open to new and elevating AOFAS members. Members who completed training in 2012 are required to apply to elevate to the next membership category to maintain full benefits. The application deadline is Jan. 1, 2013.
  • Resident Scholarship Program—AOFAS scholarship awards for orthopaedic residents to attend the 2013 AOFAS annual meeting are open to PGY2 and PGY3 residents. Applications are due March 1, 2013.

AOFAS Webinar Series
The AOFAS Webinar Series is free to AOFAS members and all orthopaedic residents and fellows. The last 2012 webinar, “Achilles/Tendon Disorders/Tendinopathy,” will be held on Dec. 18, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. CST. Registration is required. ASSH Comprehensive Care of the High Level Athlete
The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) is sponsoring the Comprehensive Care of the High Level Athlete course, May 3–4, 2013, in Chicago. ORS/OREF Grant Writing workshop
The Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS)/Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Grant Writing workshop will be held Jan. 25, 2013, a day before the start of the ORS annual meeting (Jan. 26–29). Both meetings will take place in San Antonio, Texas. Workshop attendees will learn about National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, review each step of an R01 proposal, and participate in a mock study section on NIH peer review. OTA Advanced Trauma Techniques Course
The OTA will hold its 9th annual Advanced Trauma Techniques Course for Residents, Feb. 22–23, 2013, in Los Angeles. The modular-format course is designed for advanced level orthopaedic residents. Topics include pelvis, acetabulum and hip, knee, foot and ankle, elbow and shoulder/wrist, diaphyseal, and complications/challenges. OTA Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course
The OTA Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course will be held April 10–13, 2013, in Lombard, Ill. The redesigned course will be presented in six separate small-group modules, with 20 residents and five faculty per module. Topics include the fundamental principles of care for diaphyseal, articular, foot and ankle, geriatric, pediatric, and pelvis/polytrauma fractures. The modules will include a rapid-fire series of mini-lectures, case-based discussions, video demonstrations of techniques, and hands-on skill lab exercises. POSNA Specialty Day
The Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) Specialty Day will be held March 23, 2013, in conjunction with the AAOS Annual Meeting in Chicago. Session topics include hip dysplasia, spine, practice management, sports, and trauma. For more information, visit www.posna.org

RJOS annual meeting
