During its September meeting, the AAOS Board of Directors adopted a new clinical practice guideline on the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Kristy L. The Guideline Workgroup on the treatment of CTS was chaired by Michael W. Keith, MD, and cochair Victoria Masear, MD. Members of the workgroup included Kevin Chung, MD; Peter C Amadio, MD; Michael Andary, MD; Richard W. Barth, MD; B. Kent Maupin, MD; and Brent Graham, MD. William C. Watters III, MD, is chair of the AAOS Guidelines and Technology Oversight Committee.

In May 2007, the Board adopted the first two clinical practice guidelines—on the prevention of symptomatic pulmonary embolism in patients undergoing total hip or total knee arthroplasty and on the diagnosis of CTS (see AAOS Now July 2007 issue).
The summary of recommendations for the treatment of CTS can be found on below. All three complete guidelines and supporting documentation are available on the AAOS Web site at www.aaos.org/guidelines
