ABJS seeks research papers
The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons (ABJS), in conjunction with Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (CORR), is seeking papers for the Nicolas Andry Award and for the Marshall R. Urist Young Investigator Award. Papers can be submitted for one award only. Winning papers must be presented at the 2012 ABJS annual meeting May 6–12, in Charleston, S.C.

Papers for both awards must be submitted electronically via the CORR website at www.editorialmanager.com/corr and adhere to the CORR guidelines for Survey Articles. The submission deadline date is Nov. 1, 2011. For more information, email abjs@aaos.org or call (215) 392-0270.

ACPOC annual meeting

AOFAS launches outreach program to Haiti
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Board of Directors has approved a new Overseas Outreach Program to Haiti at the Hôpital Adventiste d’Haiti in Carrefour, on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. The first two-week project will be this year, and three additional projects will be scheduled over the next 12 months. The first team, which will include two AOFAS members and three support medical personnel, will be led by Ian Alexander, MD, of Columbus, Ohio. The AOFAS Overseas Outreach Program to Haiti is funded by the Society’s Outreach & Education Fund, which is supported by donations from individuals and industry.

Hip Society 2012 British Traveling Fellowship
The Hip Society’s 2012 British Traveling Fellowship is limited to North American hip surgeons younger than 40 years of age. Documentation of interest in advancing hip surgery (publications, research, and presentations) is required. Applicants must be within 1 to 5 years of completion of fellowship. Hip Society call for papers
The Hip Society announces three awards for papers submitted from the various training programs or from practicing orthopaedic surgeons for presentation at the 2012 Hip Society meeting. The Otto Aufranc and John Charnley Awards recognize innovative research, either clinical or basic, encompassing important advances in the management of hip disorders. The Frank Stinchfield Award is given to a resident or fellow-in-training who submits an outstanding contribution concerning hip problems.

Any or all of these awards are granted annually at the discretion of the Society’s Awards Committee. The author(s) of each winning award paper will receive a $2,000 honorarium. Papers must be submitted by Dec. 1, 2011.

ASSH/Australian Hand Surgery Society meeting
The first Combined Meeting of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) and the Australian Hand Surgery Society will be held March 22–25, 2012, in Kauai, Hawaii. The meeting will offer a variety of educational sessions that encourage interactive discussion on techniques, ideas, and innovation from both sides of the Pacific. LLRS, OTA partner on specialty day symposium
The Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society (LLRS) of the AAOS will present a symposium in partnership with the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) on Specialty Day, Feb. 11, 2012, in San Francisco, during the AAOS Annual Meeting. OMeGA accepting fellowship grant applications
The OMeGA Medical Grants Association will be accepting fellowship grant applications for the 2013-2014 academic year beginning on October 10, 2011. The grant application period closes on December 16, 2011, at 5 p.m. CST.

Grants (up to $75,000) support clinical fellowships and may be used for salary, benefits and educational expenses. All applications are reviewed by subspecialty experts against objective criteria including faculty expertise, ratio of fellows to faculty, educational resources and program emphasis on research, publications and presentations.
