ABJS issues call for Andry, Urist Awards
The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons (ABJS), in conjunction with Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (CORR), seeks submissions for the 2009 Nicolas Andry Award and Marshall R. Urist Young Investigator Award. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically via the CORR Web site (www.editorialmanager.com/corr) no later than Nov. 1, 2008.

In addition, a precise statement of the primary author’s role in the submitted work and a current curriculum vitae must be e-mailed to abjs@aaos.org

Winning papers must be presented at the next ABJS annual meeting, May 13-17, 2009, in Maui, Hawaii. For more information, including eligibility and submission requirements, contact the CORR office at (215) 392-0270.

ACPOC: New research award, call for papers
The Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC) announces an annual New Investigator Research Award sponsored by Otto Bock Health­care. Four winners will be selected by the Program Committee. Winners will present their papers at the 2009 Annual Meeting in Tempe, Ariz.; registration fees will be waived. A year of membership will also be offered to the winners.

For eligibility requirements, award criteria, and submission instructions, please see the Call for Papers on the ACPOC Web site. The deadline for submission is Nov. 1, 2008.

ACPOC has issued a call for papers for its 2009 annual meeting at the Fiesta Resort Conference Center in Tempe, Ariz., May 20-23, 2009. Papers may be submitted online at www.acpoc.org; the deadline for submitting abstracts is Nov. 1, 2008.

AOA: Dates to remember
The American Orthopaedic Assoc­iation (AOA), in conjunction with Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, presents a program that brings the critical issues of leadership to the forefront of consideration. The schedule of programs for 2008-2009 follows: Essential Human Resource Skills for Optimal Asset Utilization (Module 4), Sept. 26–28, 2008, and July 17–19, 2009; The Power of Information is in the Numbers (Module 5) Nov. 21–23, 2008, and Nov. 20–22, 2009; Be Equipped to Better Compete (Module 6), Jan. 23–25, 2009.

October 3, 2008, is the deadline for submitting symposia and scientific abstracts for the AOA annual meeting to be held June 10-13, 2009, in Bonita Springs, Fla.

AOSSM named as “Science Partner” to PCPFS
The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) are proud to announce that AOSSM will serve as a Science Partner to the PCPFS. The six other organizations already serving as Science Partners include the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; American College of Sports Medicine; American Physical Therapy Association; National Athletic Trainers’ Association; and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

PCPFS is an advisory committee of volunteer citizens who advise the President through the Secretary of Health and Human Services about physical activity, fitness, and sports in America. AOSSM will be working with PCPFS to distribute and create patient education materials for both the public and professional communities via product distribution and Web site initiatives. ASES accepting applications for exchange fellowship
Sept. 15 is the deadline for applications for the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons’ (ASES) 2009 Exchange Fellowship Program. The four-week European exchange fellowship will begin in the fall of 2009. Applicants must be no more than 6 years out of their fellowship as of Dec. 31, 2008, practicing in the United States or Canada, board eligible or certified orthopaedic surgeons with a special interest and experience in shoulder and elbow research and patient care.

Register online for CSRS meeting
Online registration is now open for the 2008 annual meeting of the Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS). The meeting will be held Dec. 4-6, 2008, at the Renaissance Austin Hotel, Austin, Texas, under the direction of scientific program chair Michael G. Fehlings, MD, PhD. It will be preceded by an instructional course on “Surgical Techniques, Complications, Trauma, & Current Controversies in Anterior Fixation,” held on Dec. 3, 2008.

OREF announces new grants
The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) is pleased to announce the availability of two new grants for members of specialty societies. ASES members are encouraged to apply for the OREF/ASES/Rockwood Clinical Shoulder Research Grant. Up to $50,000 per year for up to 2 years is available through a generous contribution from Charles A. Rockwood Jr., MD.

Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) members are encouraged to apply for the OREF/POSNA Research Grant. The grant provides up to $40,000 per year for up to 2 years to encourage new investigators in pediatric orthopaedics. Funds may not be used for salary.

POSNA announces research grants
The deadline for submitting your application for the 2009 POSNA Research Award is Oct. 1, 2008. Patient-based studies, basic science research, and multicenter or society-wide projects will be considered for funding, as will pilot projects, research with preexisting funding that may need supplemental support, and complete research proposals. Research grant budgets should be detailed for one year and range from $1,000 to $30,000. Grants will be awarded based on an assessment of the scientific quality, importance of the research to the mission of POSNA, and ability of the work to help in the establishment of new areas of research or new researchers from within the POSNA membership.

Oct. 1, 2008 is also the deadline for applying for the new POSNA/OREF grant. Relevance to the mission of POSNA must be clearly noted in the Abstract and Specific Aims. In addition, the Principal Investigator must be a POSNA member or demonstrate close affiliation with a POSNA member on the proposed project.
