Introducing ePosters

By Scott D. Boden, MD

New format debuts in Las Vegas

The AAOS Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee annually faces a daunting challenge: how to present the increasing amount of new research submitted for consideration. For the 2009 Annual Meeting, for example, more than 5,300 abstracts were submitted, and more than 1,000 were selected as either podium or poster presentations.

I urge you to stroll through the posters whenever you can. Over 500 scientific posters present the latest in scientific research and provide an in-depth learning experience.

The ePoster kiosks, in Hall D, feature the top 5 rated posters in each category.

As you walk through Hall D, however, you’ll notice something new—kiosks with large screen displays and personal computer stands. These feature the new ePosters, the top 5 rated posters in each of the 11 classifications, presenting information in an interactive format. That’s 55 ePosters for you to enjoy.

View the ePosters on one of the large screens or, for a more personal approach, use one of the computers provided to pull up the ePoster of your choice. You can also find the ePosters on display in the traditional poster format.

Specialty, international posters

You’ll also find three posters presented by member societies of the Board of Specialty Societies—the best from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society. The 2009 Guest Nation—Brazil—is also sponsoring 10 posters to spark your interest. The Orthopaedic Research Society will also display their best 10 posters.

Remember that presenters will be available to talk with you and respond to your questions from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today and Friday, and that the Program Committee will be presenting awards to the best poster in each classification, including one overall best poster, during “Breakfast in the Posters” on Friday, beginning at 7:00 a.m.
