Plan to Attend Opening Ceremony
Will former White House Chief of Staff and current mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, greet the membership tomorrow? Who will be honored for attending his 60th consecutive Annual Meeting? Will you be able to spot Blue Jays, Blackhawks, Bulls, or Bears among the crowd? Will the Doublemint Twins make an appearance during the new “Body Double” television spot?
You won’t know unless you join your colleagues at tomorrow’s Opening Ceremony, marking the official start of the 2013 Annual Meeting. The festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at McCormick Place.
Highlights include an address from AAOS President John R. Tongue, MD, summarizing the Academy’s achievements in 2012, the introduction of Canada as Guest Nation, and the debut of the AAOS 2013 public service advertising (PSA) program that ties in with the Academy’s successful A Nation in Motion® campaign.
In addition, Operation Walk USA will be recognized for its humanitarian efforts; William A. Grana, MD, MPH, will be remembered; and AAOS CEO Karen Hackett, FACHE, CAE, will deliver her report to the fellowship. The following awards will be presented:
- Kappa Delta Ann Doner Vaughan Award

- Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award
- Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Clinical Research Award
