These Sessions Aren’t Just for Faculty

Although they’re called “Faculty Development Sessions,” these sessions aren’t limited to those who practice in an academic setting. Instead, they’re for anyone who would like to further define or develop presentation skills and create an environment beneficial to learning. The sessions are interactive and attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops. All sessions are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Two sessions will be held on Wednesday, March 20. The first, Getting Your Great Ideas Supported—Effective Techniques for Women in Orthopaedics, will begin at 8:00 a.m. in room N227a at McCormick Place. Mary I. O’Connor, MD, professor of orthopaedics at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Fla., will serve as moderator.

This session will focus on providing attendees with an understanding of the information that different types of people want to support your proposals. It will also present strategies on how to achieve buy-in and respond to efforts to sink great ideas. A discussion on perceptions of women leaders as well as corresponding tactics for countering negative bias and improving effectiveness round out the session.

The second session, Video Production for Orthopaedic Surgeons: Getting the Award, Making the Difference, will begin at 1:30 p.m. in room N227a. Moderator Kevin D. Plancher, MD, MS, chair of the Multimedia Education Center Committee, and panelists Cesare Faldini, MD, and Thomas G. Sampson, MD, will review the skills needed to critically evaluate orthopaedic technique videos and provide tips on creating award-winning orthopaedic videos.
