Visit the “A Nation in Motion” Booth

Public relations department works to promote your practice

Lauren P. Riley

Located in Academy Hall B, the Academy’s A Nation in Motion® public relations booth is a must visit. It’s the best place to learn about the Academy’s efforts to promote the importance of musculoskeletal care, to reach out to media outlets with award-winning public service campaigns, and to tell the stories of patients who have been helped by orthopaedic care and of the surgeons who have helped them.

Among the featured materials at the booth are the following:

A Nation in Motion Board Game—Developed exclusively for the AAOS, the A Nation in Motion board game is both educational and fun. Leave one in your reception area so your patients can play. You can pick up a free game board at the booth. Don’t feel like traveling with one? You don’t have to! Simply leave your information and one will be shipped directly to you.

2013 Public Service Campaign—Watch and listen to the Academy’s 2013 multimedia public service campaign, which is featured on the cover of today’s Daily Edition. The message of the 2013 PSA campaign is to encourage individuals to fight for their mobility. The print ads feature five patients from the A Nation in Motion campaign who fought back to regain their mobility after an orthopaedic injury. Come check them out—and take samples with you to use as patient takeaways or education materials.

Get interactive!
The booth will have mounted iPads where you can easily browse the campaign’s site, ANationInMotion.org, to familiarize yourself with the patient and surgeon stories featured and explore the new Ortho-pinions section.

Surgeon Stories offer a look into the lives of orthopaedic surgeons. They present a side of orthopaedic surgeons that patients may not often see and help to uncover the dedicated, compassionate, and interesting individuals who chose this medical specialty.

The best part is that you can submit your own story on site using the iPad at the booth. Telling your story is also an opportunity to promote your orthopaedic practice, because each story includes the name of your practice and hospital and links to their sites.

Patient Stories are submitted by individuals across the country who have regained their mobility due to their orthopaedic care. When you return to your practice after the meeting, encourage your patients to submit their stories.

Ortho-pinions are bone and joint health columns authored by orthopaedic surgeons and can be about any musculoskeletal health topic that comes up regularly with patients. You can submit a column through ANationInMotion.org or use the iPad to write one during the meeting.

Take a few minutes during your busy day to stop by the A Nation in Motion public relations booth. It’s an opportunity for you to see how the Academy’s public relations department works on your behalf. We look forward to seeing you and answering your questions about the campaign.

Lauren P. Riley is manager, media relations, in the AAOS public relations department.
