Former U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl to Speak at PAC Luncheon

Former U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., who served as Minority Whip and on the Senate Finance and Judiciary Committees, will address the members of the Political Action Committee (PAC) of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) during its annual PAC members-only luncheon on Wednesday.

Sen. Kyl was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1987, and served there until his election to the Senate in 1994. The son of Rep. John Henry Kyl (R-Iowa), Sen. Kyl worked as a lawyer and lobbyist in Phoenix before entering politics. His career has provided him invaluable insights into the practice and crafting of laws that affect small businesses and government alike. In 2010, Sen. Kyl was recognized by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

The PAC luncheon will be held in Room E353ab, McCormick Place, Lakeside, beginning at 12:00 p.m., and is open to 2011–2012 PAC contributors only.

Formed in 1999, the Orthopaedic PAC supports candidates for federal office who advocate for the issues that orthopaedic surgeons face on a daily basis. It is the only national PAC in Washington, D.C., representing orthopaedic surgeons before Congress. The Orthopaedic PAC works to build a coalition of pro-physician members in Congress who will fight for legislation that supports the practice of medicine.

Be sure to visit the AAOS Office of Government Relations Advocacy Booth— in McCormick Place, Hall A, South Level 3, Booth 1600—for an update on the Orthopaedic PAC’s various activities.
