Registration open for AOA~Kellogg Leadership Series Modules 3 and 5
The American Orthopaedic Association, in conjunction with Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, designed the AOA~Kellogg Leadership Series. This one-of-its-kind, interactive personal development forum for the orthopaedic specialty prepares attendees for current and future challenges by honing their leadership and executive management skills.
Registration is now open for modules 3 and 5 in the program. Modules can be attended in any sequence. Module 3, Understanding Successful Leadership, Governance and Power, will be held July 20-22; Module 5, The Power of Information is in the Numbers, is scheduled for Sept. 14-16. AOA seeks abstracts for 2008 combined meeting
All physicians and orthopaedic researchers are invited to submit scientific abstracts to be presented at the 2008 Combined Meeting of the American Orthopaedic Association and the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. The meeting will be held June 4-7, 2008, in Quebec City, Canada.

Submit abstracts, scholarship applications for 2008 MAOA meeting
The Mid-America Orthopaedic Association (MAOA) is accepting abstract submissions online for scientific paper and poster presentations at its 2008 annual meeting, which will be held April 16-20, 2008, at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate, ChampionsGate, Fla.
Abstracts will be accepted online only through the MAOA Web site at www.maoa.org. The deadline for online abstract submission is July 2, 2007.
The MAOA is also accepting applications for education grants for senior residents/fellows and new in practice (first two years) to attend the 2008 Annual Meeting. The grants are $2,500 each; the deadline for application submission is November 1, 2007. Applications are available online at www.maoa.org

Apply now for MAOA traveling fellowship, resident grants
The MAOA is now accepting applications for the Traveling Fellowship (one award of $5,000) and the Multipurpose Resident Grant Program (three awards of $4,000 each).
This $5,000 Traveling Fellowship is intended to help young researchers expand their expertise and knowledge by association with other workers in their field. The application deadline for the 2007-2008 fellowship is July 2, 2007. The applicant must be younger than age 40 on the application date deadline, Board-certified or have completed an approved orthopaedic residency, and maintain a practice in and be currently located in the Mid-America 20-state region.
The Multipurpose Resident Grants enable selected residents to enlarge their horizons through research, travel, or study that they otherwise would not experience. Recent recipients have studied hand surgery in India and acetabular reconstruction in Switzerland, and have performed research at their home institution. These grants are open to orthopaedic residents in their third, fourth, fifth, or sixth postgraduate years (not a research or fellowship year) who are located in the 20-state Mid-America region. The application deadline for the 2007-2008 grants is July 2, 2007.

JRGOS presents mentoring award, resident scholarships
Felasfa M. Wodajo, MD, of Chevy Chase, Md., was awarded the 2007 J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society (JRGOS) Alvin H. Crawford Mentoring Award. The award is meant to honor and thank Dr. Crawford, winner of the 2007 AAOS Diversity Award, for his support and guidance as well as to acknowledge the efforts of others who have influenced the professional achievements of others in a similar fashion.
For the third year, JRGOS assisted minority orthopaedic residents to prepare for their certifying exam by awarding 12 PGY5 minority residents scholarships to attend the 2007 AAOS Board Preparation and Review Course. The course, which took place May 2-5, is presented under the direction of Frank J. Frassica, MD, and Frederick M. Azar, MD. The 12 scholarship recipients are Rubin Bashir, MD, University of Pittsburgh; Ouida Brown, MD, University of Alabama/Birmingham; George Dyer, MD, Harvard University; Lutul Farrow, MD, Case Western Reserve University; Brett Haywood, MD, University of Arizona; Thesselon Monderson, MD, Howard University; Matthew Nelson, MD, Howard University; Kenyatta Norman, MD, Howard University; Dennis Sagini, MD, Howard University; James T. Stewart II, MD, Howard University; Mark Vann, MD, Howard University; and Allister Williams, MD, Medical University of South Carolina.
Watch for special JRGOS/JAAOS supplement
Meeting proceedings of the JRGOS inaugural meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland will be published as a supplement to the Journal of the AAOS (JAAOS). The estimated publication date of the supplement, Perspectives in Orthopaedic Professionalism, Diversity and Health Disparities, is September 2007. As of this writing, meeting faculty, including keynote speaker, Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, have submitted their manuscripts, which are now in edit phase.
OREF accepting nominations for Tipton Award
The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) is now accepting nominations for the 3rd annual William W. Tipton Jr., MD Orthopaedic Leadership Award. Academy fellows in good standing, candidate members eligible for fellowship, and orthopaedic residents who have directly and professionally benefited from the activities of the nominee may nominate candidates for the award.
The award will be presented at the 2008 AAOS Annual Meeting in San Francisco, and the honoree will receive a commemorative plaque and a $5,000 donation to be used in further promoting leadership in orthopaedics. More information on the award and a nomination form are available at www.oref.org/tipton. Nomination forms and supporting materials must be received by the OREF Tipton Leadership Award Committee no later than July 20, 2007.
