CME and SAE offerings from AAOS
The Academy offers a wide array of CME courses, home study programs, and SAEs to help you meet MOC requirements.
Each year, the AAOS CME Courses Committee presents a complete orthopaedic curriculum of approximately 30 courses. Two courses in November and December are focused on MOC examination preparation. New CME courses for 2007 address “boomeritis,” cartilage restoration of the knee, top orthopaedic controversies, and other pertinent topics.
The Academy also offers SAEs that can be taken online, in print format, or on CD-ROM. Four AAOS examinations currently meet the MOC program requirements: the 2005 Orthopaedic Self-Assessment Examination and the 2007 Orthopaedic Special Interest Self-Assessment Examinations on adult reconstruction of the hip/knee, sports medicine, and pediatric orthopaedics. Additional titles will be available as new examinations are released each year. Other self-scored special interest examinations that can help you meet the overall CME requirement—but not the self-assessment requirement—are available from the Academy.
Many of the Academy’s electronic media products provide CME credit. Some, like the new, highly interactive Athlete’s Elbow, take the learner through various patient scenarios, making choices on diagnostic tests and treatment options. Others, like Standing Room Only 4: Spine Surgery, are based on Academy CME courses and offer up to six CME credits. They combine lectures, procedure videos, case reviews, and self-assessment questions. Offerings in the Surgical Techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery series also provide CME credit; each video-based program carries three CME credits.
Orthopaedic Knowledge Online (OKO) also offers CME credit. Courses offer from one-quarter CME credit to four CME credits and are designed to fit your busy schedule. Although some courses are free to AAOS members and orthopaedic residents, others cost approximately $15 per CME credit. Visit www.aaos.org/oko to view all of OKO’s CME opportunities.
Remember that all CME activities you purchase from the Academy are automatically posted to your CME transcript at AAOS. To access your transcript, go to www.aaos.org/transcript
