AAHKS welcomes Sen. Barrasso
Among the highlights of the 17th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), Nov. 2-4, 2007, at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Dallas will be a fund raiser for the first orthopaedic surgeon to serve in the U.S. Senate, John A. Barrasso, MD.

Continuing the tradition of the prestigious American British and Canadian (ABC) Exchange Traveling Fellowship, the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) is seeking orthopaedic leaders to represent it during the 2009 ABC Traveling Fellowship to the United Kingdom and South Africa.

ASBMR sponsorsosteoporosis meeting
The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) is sponsoring a meeting on “Targeting Bone Remodeling for the Treatment of Osteoporosis,” Dec. 5-6, 2007, at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C. The AAOS is one of several cosponsors.

This meeting will explore evolving approaches and innovations that target bone remodeling and show promise for improving the treatment of osteoporosis. OTA cosponsors unique trauma course
“Strategies and Tactics in Orthopaedic Extremity Trauma” is a unique learning experience sponsored by the AAOS and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA). Participants will have the opportunity to work with simulated “injured patients” (cadaveric), and prepare a diagnosis, treatment plan, and surgical approach before performing the tactical steps necessary to repair the fracture or injury.

Led by course directors Thomas A. (Toney) Russell, MD, and Joseph Borrelli, Jr., MD, this program offers a revolutionary way to learn and practice the latest innovations for the treatment of common and complex fractures. Course highlights include advanced intramedullary nail techniques as well as recent open and minimally invasive techniques for plate and screw management.
