OREF News for Residents
Orthopaedic Residents Learn Research Skills at OREF Symposia
Interested residents are invited to OREF’s annual spring Resident
Research Symposia to present their research papers to a panel of experienced
researchers and clinicians. The panels will rank the work, and top papers will
receive financial awards.
The symposia will be held this spring in Boston, Chicago, and New York. All
residents and orthopaedic surgeons are invited to attend these symposia. Residents
should direct all questions about abstract submissions to their residency coordinators.

OREF announces new grant available:
NIAMS/OREF National Research Service Award Post Doctoral Fellowships in Epidemiology,
Clinical Trials, and Outcomes Research in Orthopaedic Surgery (F32)
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), in partnership with OREF, announces the availability of individual National Research Service Award Postdoctoral Fellowships to support the training of orthopaedic surgeons. These awards will supplement surgeons’ knowledge of orthopaedics with training in epidemiology, clinical trials, and outcomes research.
The fellowships are intended to support up to two years of advanced training to obtain a Masters of Public Health — or similar relevant area of study — and/or a Ph.D. in epidemiology, which will qualify the fellow to pursue a career in these areas as they relate to orthopaedic surgery.
OREF will provide a supplemental yearly stipend to the fellow of $30,000. Application deadlines are June 23 and October 23 of 2007, and February 23 and June 23 of 2008.
