AAOS Research Symposia: AAOS/ORS Molecular Biology and Therapeutics in Musculoskeletal Oncology (MBTMO)

  • Principal Investigators: Richard Terek, MD; Regis O’Keefe, MD, PhD; R. Lor Randall, MD, FACS; and Theresa Guise, MD
  • Dates: September 25-27, Salt Lake City, UT
  • Participants: Orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, Young Investigators, industry representatives, and other medical specialties involved in translational and basic research on primary and secondary musculoskeletal tumors (by invitation only).
  • Purpose of Symposium: The MBTMO symposium will strive to improve our ability to utilize targeted therapies in the future and identify imminently available tissue engineering techniques that could be used to optimize limb salvage reconstructions, as well as address the present state of musculoskeletal oncology and the emerging areas that could have an impact on the field, develop a consensus on future areas of research, and address strategies for the quick translation of basic research to patient care.
  • Overview of Topics:
    • Tumor Biology (I and II)
    • Current Treatment/Limitations/Resistance to Treatment
    • Biologic Based Therapy for Osteosarcoma
    • Biologic Based Therapy for Ewing’s Sarcoma
