Alternative Reporting Methods in 2010

An alternative to reporting measures through claims is to report the data through a qualified registry. Both individual measures and measures groups may be reported through a qualified registry (Figure 2).

Eligible professionals that report measures through a registry will need to enter into and maintain an appropriate legal arrangement with a qualified 2010 PQRI registry. A list of qualified registries for 2010 PQRI will be posted to the CMS web site on December 31, 2009. This list will consist of qualified registries for the 2008 and 2009 PQRI that have successfully submitted 2008 PQRI data on behalf of EPs to CMS. Additional registries will be added to the list of qualified registries for the 2010 PQRI upon completion of the 2010 registry self-nomination process.

Reporting criteria for registry reporting for individual or group measures:

For the January 1 through December 31, 2010 reporting period:

  • Report on at least 3 individual PQRI measures on 80% of the applicable patients OR
  • Report on 80% of applicable patients for a measure group and must report each measure group on a minimum of 15 applicable patients OR
  • Report 1 measure group for at least 30 applicable patients

For the July 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009 reporting period:

  • Report on at least 3 individual PQRI Measures on 80% of the applicable patients OR
  • Report on 80% of applicable patients for a measure group and must report each measure group on at least 8 applicable patients.

Eligible professionals whose 2010 PQRI quality measure information is successfully submitted by a registry and satisfies the applicable criteria for the January-December (full-year) reporting period OR the July-December (half-year) reporting period may earn an incentive payment equal to 2.0% of their total allowed charges for MPFS covered professional services furnished during the applicable 2010 reporting period.
