JAAOS at 20 Years

David C. Smith

This month marks the twentieth anniversary of the appearance of the first issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS): volume 1, number 1, had a cover date of September–October 1993. As John W. Frymoyer, MD, the first editor-in-chief of JAAOS, reports in his guest editorial in the September 2013 issue of the “Yellow Journal,” JAAOS was launched to provide a quality clinical review journal to assist Academy members and readers in improving the care received by patients with musculoskeletal disorders. The bar was set high, and that goal has been achieved and maintained. Today, JAAOS is the most widely read clinical orthopaedic journal in the world, the “must have” resource for orthopaedic surgeons.
