Valgus Approach

February 24, 2016

Contributors: Kirby Hitt, MD

In the approach to a valgus knee, over-release of the medial structures should be avoided. Medial release should be taken to the mid-coronal plane. The anterolateral capsule can be released off the tibia behind the fat pad. The release extends laterally to help facilitate lateralization of the patella and correction of contracted lateral capsule.
