Patient-specific Guides for Proximal Humerus Fracture

March 01, 2017

Contributors: Bruno Borralho Gobbato, MD; Bruno Borralho Gobbato, MD

Rapid prototyping is a promising powerful technology and patient-specific instruments are being used in high-cost procedures such as arthroplasties. But, this technique can also be used to help the surgeon in other procedures like fixing difficult fractures as displaced proximal humerus. Fixing proximal humeral fractures can be a challenge. Locked plates are the gold-standard implant. The purpose of this vídeo is to show our experience using a new surgical method, planning the surgery with 3D software, and developing patient-specific guides (PSG) to help fix these fractures, using the locked plate to automatically reduce and fix the fracture without fluoroscopy.
